Best Practices For Gate Installation
Types Of Gates
Wooden gates are easy to build and install. If you have a wooden fence, then it makes sense to match it with a wooden gate, allowing you to finish it with the fence.
Pros: Wooden gates are cheap and effective. They are affordable to build, while still remaining solid, and they do not cost a lot to maintain.
Cons: There is a little upkeep to wooden gates. As they begin to fade, crack, or chip, you need to sand them and repaint them.
Vinyl gates can be crafted however you want them, and they can even match an existing wooden fence.
Pros: Vinyl is strong and requires little maintenance. Once the gate is installed, you will not need to repaint it, and the gate holds up to the weather well.
Cons: The gate will cost a little more than other materials and can be harder to repair, costing more to do so.
Chain Link Gates:
Chain link gates provide you with a sturdy entrance and exit to your home, and they have become more attractive than they were, adding beauty to your building.
Pros: These gates are strong and hold up well to the weather. They also require little maintenance once installed and are affordable too. They create a more open feel.
Cons: Chain link gates offer less privacy unless you add privacy strips. They also do not have as much versatility as wood or vinyl gates.
Aluminum gates have become more popular in recent years and have the same elegant look of sturdy wrought iron gates while being lightweight and cost-effective.
Pros: Aluminum gates require little maintenance. Generally, the finish is integrated into the metal, so you do not need to repaint the metal as it will not fade.
Cons: The aluminum is not as strong as other metals, so it cannot bear as much weight. As such, the gates should be looked after so they are not damaged.
